Las Esperanzas Oral Histories
During 2009, Las Esperanzas collaborated with New Mexico State Linguists Professor Dr. Daniel Villa to record the oral histories of the Mesquite Historical District. Dr. Villa utilized students from his class to conduct interviews with various residents documenting their lives of growing up in the historic district.
The importance of this project is to truly preserve both the past and the culture of the Mesquite Historical neighborhood. Dr. Villa’s intent is to recognize the unique Spanish language spoken within this district as compared to other locations within the immediate area.
Dr. Villa is in the process of editing those interviews and we plan on posting each of the interviews on this site as they become available.
Thank you Dr. Villa.
